Khaberni - The Cuban government said that 32 of its citizens were killed during the American attack on Venezuela to detain President Nicolas Maduro for trial in the United States.
Cuba declared mourning on the fifth and sixth of January, and stated that funeral arrangements would be announced.
The Cuban government's statement provided only a few details, but said that all the dead were members of the Cuban armed forces and intelligence services.
The statement said "In fulfillment of their responsibilities related to security and defense, our citizens performed their duty with dignity and heroism and fell after fierce resistance in direct combat against the attackers or as a result of the bombing of facilities."
Cuba had provided some security for Maduro since he took power, and it was not clear how many Cubans were guarding the Venezuelan president when they died, nor how many were killed elsewhere.
The American forces arrested Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores in the Venezuelan capital Caracas on Saturday and flew them to the United States.
Maduro is detained at a detention center in New York awaiting his court appearance on Monday on drug-related charges, and the United States charged Maduro in 2020 with charges including conspiring in drug-related crimes, and Maduro always denies committing any wrongdoing.
