Deaths and Injuries in Kenya Due to a Horrifying Hippo Attack

Khaberni - Four young men were killed, and others injured following a hippo attack on a group of fishermen at Lake Naivasha, a famous tourist area located about 80 kilometers from the capital, Nairobi, in the Rift Valley.

Local media reported that the group, consisting of 14 men, was fishing illegally last Friday evening on the shores of the lake when they were suddenly attacked by hippos.

Some of the men managed to swim to safety, while others perished due to the animal attack or by drowning in the waters.

Relatives of the victims explained that the young men were trying to increase their families' income through fishing, a hazardous activity in Lake Naivasha, where hippos are known for their aggressive behavior when they feel their territory is being invaded.

In related developments, operators of tourist lodges and camps in the area are warning visitors against taking nighttime walks on the lakeshores, or getting close to the animals and water, to avoid such deadly incidents.
