Food Etiquette in Danger Has Generation Z Abandoned the Rules

Khaberni - In a time when social habits are changing rapidly, it seems that traditional table manners no longer hold the same status among the new generations, top of which is Generation Z, as revealed by recent discussions and surveys about eating behaviors at events.

While some insist on adhering to classic rules such as not using the phone while eating, waiting until food is served to everyone before starting, and avoiding placing elbows on the table, recent figures indicate a decline in adherence to these standards.

According to a survey conducted by "Prezzo," 77% of Generation Z see no problem in eating with elbows on the table, which reflects a clear shift in the concept of "politeness" for this generation compared to previous ones.

Conversely, some recall strict educational practices that were common in the past, where table manners were precisely taught in homes, with a focus on the smallest details during meals, leading to punishment for any behavior considered inappropriate.

But this strictness is now a matter of debate, especially with the decline in importance of some traditional rules. According to the survey, 73% of Generation Z believe that classic table manners are "outdated."

The report also indicated that 46% of the same generation consider using the phone at the table to be normal, which sparks extensive debate about the impact of technology on social behavior during family gatherings or events.

On the other hand, others cling to the idea that table manners are not just formalities but are part of a culture of mutual respect and organizing social gatherings, especially in formal events and private dinners.

Between a generation that clings to tradition, and another redefining them according to their digital lifestyle, the question remains open: Have the old rules of the table really ended, or are they just adapting to a new era?
