Egypt A student jumps from the school window and struggles with death for 7 hours after being forgotten

Khaberni - The Egyptian Administrative Prosecution referred 4 officials from the primary school administration in Gharbia Governorate to urgent disciplinary trial, due to severe negligence that endangered the life of a student.

The list of those referred included the former school principal, the former general manager of the educational administration, the school's vice principal, and one of the teachers, after the student was left alone in the classroom with the iron doors locked between floors, following the early dismissal of students and staff, which led her to attempt to jump from the upper first floor, resulting in her falling unconscious in the school yard, where she remained for about seven hours before she was found.

According to an official statement, the Administrative Prosecution had received a report from the educational administration in El-Mahalla El-Kubra and a complaint request from the student's relatives, which prompted the chief deputy of the prosecution to visit the school to conduct a thorough examination and listen to the testimonies of the victim's classmates, in addition to her mother's testimony that confirmed the search for her continued until nine-thirty in the evening, before she was found with the help of a school worker.

The student was immediately transferred to the hospital to check on her health condition, while an official report of the incident was filed.
The investigations revealed that the former school principal had issued verbal instructions to dismiss the students and workers before the official timings without assigning supervision for the floors, while the former general manager took no action despite being informed of the incident.

The vice principal played with the attendance register, and the classroom teacher left as soon as her class ended without making sure the classroom was empty of students.

The inspection committee from the directorate confirmed that all the organizational procedures related to students’ safety were not applied, including the closing of the iron gate leading to the ground floor before the official timings, which prevented the student from leaving the building safely.
The investigations resulted in the termination of assignments for the principal and the former general manager, and the referral of all suspects to urgent disciplinary trial.

The relevant administrative body was tasked with intensifying regular checks on schools to ensure full compliance with the organizational instructions for work and the safety of students within educational facilities, to prevent the recurrence of such accidents that endanger children's lives.
