Khaberni - The government began applying the third phase of raising the water tariff for the residential sector starting from the last month of last year (12/2025), within a previously approved gradual restructuring plan that extends until 2028.
This includes yearly increases in the tariff based on consumption levels, as part of efforts to address the financial deficit of the water sector and ensure its sustainability, according to previous data.
Earlier, the Cabinet had approved a plan to restructure the water and sewage tariffs for the years 2023–2029, based on recommendations from the Water Authority's board of directors, and in line with the national water strategy 2023–2040, which aims to achieve water security and improve the quality of supply and services provided to citizens, in addition to enhancing the financial sustainability of the sector.
The plan includes gradual yearly increases in the water and sewage tariffs with an average annual rise of 4.6%, starting from December 2023 and continuing until December 2028, which will be reflected in the subscribers' bills accordingly, based on the defined consumption brackets.
The plan also included switching the billing system for water and sewage from quarterly to monthly for all sectors and across all regions of the kingdom, in addition to maintaining variable government subsidies for consumption brackets, with a special focus on protecting low-income households, at a time when the water sector's debt amounts to about 2.3 billion dinars.
