Khaberni - A young man was killed and his father was injured on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, due to the explosion of an oxygen cylinder that was used for inflating balloons as part of a family business activity in the Kamaliyah area east of Baghdad.
The reports stated that the accident occurred while they were preparing for the New Year celebrations, where the cylinder suddenly exploded, instantly killing the son and seriously injuring the father.
The Iraqi Ministry of Interior confirmed in an official statement that the relevant authorities began investigating and took necessary measures to ensure safety, noting that there were no other human casualties.
A team from the Civil Defense Center was sent to the site of the incident to ensure safety standards were applied, as mentioned in the statement.
Officials from the Ministry of Interior and Civil Defense devices continue the investigations to find detailed information about the circumstances of the explosion, including storage conditions and safe usage of the cylinder, as part of their efforts to reduce risks to citizens and small traders, especially during official celebrations.
