Petra records the highest daily number of visitors since 2023

Khaberni - The ancient city of Petra has recorded a noticeable increase in visitor numbers, achieving the highest daily figure since 2023, which clearly indicates the recovery of tourism and the return of confidence in the tourism sector in Petra.

According to official statistics issued by the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority, the total number of visitors to the archaeological site was 3986, including 3723 foreigners, 139 Arabs, 45 residents, and 79 Jordanians.

Dr. Fares Al-Breizat, the head of the board of commissioners of the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority, stated that recording this number in one day is a positive and important indicator of the recovery of the tourism sector and the gradual return of tourism to Petra, emphasizing that the vast majority of visitors are foreign tourists, reflecting the confidence of the global tourism markets in the archaeological site, considering it one of the most important global tourism destinations.

Al-Breizat pointed out that the most prominent nationalities that visited Petra included Italian tourists with 736 visitors, Russians 404, Spaniards 373, Americans 361, French 229, and British 212, along with visitors from India 146, Bulgaria 116, Indonesia 102, and Germany 100, reflecting the diversity of tourism markets and the return of global tourism programs to include Petra in their itineraries.

He added that this improvement in visitor numbers came after the cessation of the Israeli war on Gaza and resulted from integrated efforts that included intensive tourism promotion, continuous coordination with relevant entities, improving the level of services provided to visitors, and maintaining the highest standards of safety and security within the archaeological site.

He explained that there are increasing positive indicators of the growth of family tourism, whether through foreign tourist groups or Arab and Jordanian visitors, emphasizing that the authority places special focus on this type of tourism, and seeks to build on it in the future by developing services and improving facilities to enhance the tourism experience, meeting the needs of families and encouraging longer stays in Petra.

Al-Breizat expressed optimism for the upcoming period, expecting the number of visitors to continue to rise during January, February, and until the end of the next tourism season, with the return of global tourism programs and increased interest of tourist groups in visiting Petra, stressing the authority's commitment to continue working to support the tourism sector and enhance its role in the economic and social development of local communities in Petra.
