Jordan Ministry of Public Works We have sensors on 6000 culverts and watercourses

Khaberni - The spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works, Omar Maharmeh, stated that more than 6,000 culverts, watercourses, and bridges in various regions of the kingdom are equipped with sensors that monitor any obstacles or closures that may occur.

Maharmeh explained that the governorate of Karak witnessed 25% of its seasonal rainfall average over 48 hours, leading to water overflowing from its natural channels in some areas, as happened in Wadi Shuaib.

He indicated that about 90% of the reports received by the ministry focused on cases of erosion, silt accumulation, land collapses, and rocks slipping onto the road, causing traffic disruptions with nohuman injuries recorded.

He noted that the road closure periods did not exceed one hour, except in the area of Ghor Numera, which faced a flood with a width exceeding 200 meters, approximately 150 meters wider than the natural width of the flood.

Maharmeh added that a committee has been formed to study the collapse of the old city wall in Karak, expecting the results and recommendations of the committee to be issued within 48 hours.

He confirmed that the ministry would assess all the sites that encountered problems to ensure the safety of the infrastructure and the absence of any defects.
