Teslas Future Roof May Provide Direct Starlink Internet to Your Car

Khaberni - Tesla may be close to solving one of the biggest problems facing travelers on the roads and drivers in rural areas, which is the problem of internet disconnection.

A recently published U.S. patent application reveals that the company is considering redesigning the car roof from scratch, abandoning traditional glass and metals in favor of materials that easily allow satellite signals to pass through.

The patent describes a car roof made from polymers that allow radio signals to pass through, according to a report by "Digital Trends," a site specialized in technology news.

In short, Tesla is seeking to transform its car roofs into a data transmission window. Traditional car roof materials such as steel or even specialized glass act as barriers, preventing or weakening the high-frequency signals needed for satellite internet.

To solve this problem, Tesla is exploring a mix of high-strength polymers like polycarbonate, "ABS," and "ASA." These are not just ordinary "plastic" roofs; these materials are foundational in the world of aviation and aerospace due to their exceptional durability.

The patent details a four-layer structure designed to allow wireless frequencies to pass through while maintaining sufficient rigidity to ensure cabin quietness and safety.

Safety is a fundamental part of the patent application. Tesla explicitly states that this new design still meets federal motor vehicle safety standards, addressing the clear concerns that the polymer roof may not provide adequate protection for passengers in the event of a vehicle rollover.

This new roof represents a delicate balance between a satellite-friendly roof design yet being "extremely durable" to protect passengers.

By incorporating satellite connectivity directly into the vehicle's structure, Tesla can effectively eliminate the problem of areas not covered by the communications towers network.
