Hamas prepares to elect the head of its political bureau Who are the prominent candidates

Palestinian sources revealed that Hamas is preparing to elect the new head of its political bureau.

According to sources, the elections will take place within a few days. It was clarified that a final decision has not yet been made regarding holding general internal elections for its leadership in the Gaza Strip and outside it.

According to those sources, leaders were assigned weeks ago to manage the Gaza file in place of those who were martyred in the war on the sector.

The sources indicated that there have been internal discussions within Hamas to conduct internal elections in February of next year.

The sources pointed out that this date has not been fully confirmed, and consultations are ongoing about it until a final agreement is reached, which is mainly linked to the progress of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement and related developments.

The sources said that some leaders of the movement are currently working to fill the vacuum created by the assassination of prominent leaders in the sector.

According to informed sources, it is expected that the elections for the political bureau of Hamas will witness a principal competition between Khaled Meshaal, who is seen as closer to Arab orientations, and Khalil al-Hayya, classified among the current closer to the Iranian approach in the region.

According to the sources, the years of war on the Gaza Strip have crystallized two camps within the movement; the first advocates openness to the Arab League and Arab policies in general, adopting a more moderate political approach, in contrast to another current closer to the Iranian axis, which sees the option of “resistance and uniting the arenas” as the primary pathway to achieving its goals.

The sources indicated that the upcoming elections for the political bureau are pivotal and unprecedented compared to previous rounds, as it will determine the orientation of the majority within the movement, in the aftermath of the severe blows Hamas suffered in the Gaza Strip and outside it, and the unprecedented widespread destruction in the sector caused by the war.

Hamas has been holding intense internal consultations for several days to choose members of the new political bureau, in a preliminary step preceding the elections for the head of the political bureau of the movement.

According to special sources, the leader known as Al-Amoudi, from Khan Yunis, is expected to take over the leadership of the movement in the Gaza Strip following Yahya Sinwar. The sources indicated that Al-Amoudi is actually managing the affairs of the movement in the sector, having been practically assigned this task.

According to the same sources, internal consultations have led to a consensus on naming both Mushir al-Masri and Tawfiq Abu Naim, leaders of the movement in the Gaza Strip who survived, as members of the political bureau representing the sector.

The sources added that consultations are still ongoing within the movement's leadership structures, aiming to reach a final formation of the new political bureau, including leaders from the Gaza Strip and the West Bank alongside leaders of the movement abroad.
