Sami Trabelsi, the coach of the Tunisian national team, confirmed that his team is ready to face Nigeria, noting at the same time that his opponent’s failure to qualify for the World Cup does not lessen the team's strength at all.
The Tunisian team will meet its Nigerian counterpart on Saturday, within the competitions of the second round of Group Three of the group stage of the African Nations Football Championship, currently held in Morocco.
Tunisia leads the group with 3 points, following their significant 3-1 victory against Uganda at the start of their matches in the current edition of the continental competition, holding a goal difference over their closest pursuer, the Nigerian team, which also has the same score after their 2-1 win over Tanzania in the same round.
Trabelsi said in the press conference, held on Friday to discuss the match: We are ready to face Nigeria, and the morale is very high after securing the win in the first match against Uganda.
The Tunisian coach added: Nigeria’s non-qualification for the 2026 World Cup changes nothing in the match, and our focus is concentrated on the technical aspects of our team and not on the competitor's situation.
Trabelsi continued: We will be fully focused and will give our best effort and discipline to achieve a good result.
The Tunisian team aims to collect the three points in order to secure a seat in the round of 16 of the championship, which it won only once when it hosted it in 2004.
It is noteworthy that the leader and the runner-up of each group in the group stage, plus the best 4 teams finishing third, ascend to the knockout stages of the championship.
