Media reports today, Friday, state that a man in the city of Turin in northern Italy choked to death while eating the traditional Christmas panettone.
According to the forensic expert, it appears that a piece of the cake and a slice of mandarin blocked his airway. Family members immediately informed the emergency services, which arrived within minutes, but it was not possible to save the man (47 years old).
Many people expressed their sympathy on social media, referring to a post attributed to the deceased's brother on Facebook, which reads, "You will always be in our hearts."
Panettone is a bread-like cake made from yeast, eggs, fruits, butter, and is usually eaten at Christmas.
