Khaberni - Jordan University Hospital General Manager Nader Al-Basoul said on Wednesday that the hospital signed a financial settlement with the Prime Minister's Office regarding the hospital's accumulated debts, and there are still outstanding issues related to the Ministry of Health's debts, which are hoped to be resolved soon.

Al-Basoul added, "The total debt to the Ministry of Health from 2021 until October 2025 is approximately 70 million dinars," according to Al-Basoul, who stated that the exemptions come through the Royal Court and the Prime Minister's Office, according to the kingdom.

Al-Basoul stated that the hospital receives daily about 2500-3000 patients, all of whom need medications and medical consumables.

"They should treat us (the government) as they have others (referring to the settlement that occurred with King's Hospital)," according to Al-Basoul

He said the hospital has debts of 33 million dinars to pharmaceutical companies and 32 million dinars for medical consumables.

Al-Basoul warned of undesirable outcomes for patients and the hospital if a financial settlement is not reached, noting at the same time that the hospital is always steadfast in serving the patients but needs to meet its financial obligations to continue its operations.

In turn, General Manager of King’s Hospital Abdullah Al-University Hassan Al-Balsi said that the hospital has strategic plans to reduce dependence on the government.

Al-Balsi said that pharmaceutical companies want a commitment to cash flow so they can also meet their obligations.

The Cabinet decided in its session held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Jafar Hassan to approve an agreement to pay off the accrued medical treatment debt of King Abdullah University Hospital.

According to the agreement, the government will pay the hospital 10 million dinars this month, and will commit to paying an amount of 3 million dinars monthly starting from the beginning of next year; until the full amount estimated at about 39.6 million dinars is paid, which will enable the hospital to sustain its services.

The decision comes as part of the government's efforts aimed at paying off all the arrears accumulated over past years for the benefit of various entities, where the government since its formation in September 2024 has paid about 600 million dinars out of more than a billion dinars.
