480000 university students in Jordan 60 of them in public universities

Statistical data released by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research at the beginning of the academic year 2025–2026 showed that the total number of students studying in higher education institutions in the Kingdom amounted to 480,009 students of both genders, distributed by 60 percent in public universities and colleges, compared to 40 percent in private universities and colleges.

The statistics indicated that the number of non-Jordanian (international) students reached 55,410 students from 119 countries, accounting for 11.5 percent of the total student population, reflecting Jordan's growing status as a regional hub for higher education.

At the degree level, bachelor's degrees accounted for the largest proportion of students at 82.3 percent, followed by intermediate diplomas at 11 percent, master’s degrees at 4.5 percent, higher diplomas at 1.2 percent, while doctoral students amounted to 1 percent.

In the academic aspect, there were 14,152 faculty members, with females constituting 41 percent of the total. About 60 percent worked in public universities compared to 40 percent in private universities, within a system comprising 83 educational institutions.

The report pointed out that there were 2,430 majors offered across various educational institutions, including the introduction of 201 new majors, while the number of non-Jordanian educational institutions recognized by the ministry reached 2,971, as part of efforts to enhance the quality of education and regulate its academic outputs.
