The Senegalese team began its journey in the Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco with a well-deserved victory over the Botswana team by scoring three unanswered goals, in the match that brought them together on Tuesday as part of the first round of Group Four.
This victory followed a hard-fought win by the Democratic Republic of Congo over Benin with a single goal in the same group, putting Senegal at the top with three points, leading the Democratic Republic of Congo by goal difference, while the Benin and Botswana teams remained without points.
On the turf of the Grand Stadium in Tangier, striker Nicolas Jackson shined and led the "Lions of Teranga" to victory by scoring two goals in the 40th and 58th minutes, before substitute Sherif N'Diaye concluded the trio with a goal in the 90th minute.
The Senegalese team dominated the proceedings of the match and imposed its attacking style from the first minutes, continually threatening the Botswana goal, though only three goals were materialized effectively.
The result was consistent with the technical and historical difference between the two teams, especially given the significant disparity in the world ranking, where Senegal leads Botswana by 119 places.
