Khaberni - American transportation giant Uber Technologies faces a fierce storm of criticism after announcing a significant investment in the Israeli company Flytrex, specialized in drones.
This investment, described by activists as "blatant collusion with an apartheid regime committing genocide," has sparked widespread calls on social media to boycott Uber and regard it as a partner in Israeli crimes against Palestinians.
The move, which Uber promoted as an expansion in the field of aerial logistics, is seen by many as a moral blot; the company, valued at about $193.8 billion, has not only ignored the voices of the victims in Gaza Strip but has practically, according to critics, aligned itself with an entity accused of committing genocide and war crimes.
Prominent international human rights organizations, including Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, have documented over the past months Israel's deliberate targeting of civilians in Gaza and the destruction of hospitals, schools, and shelters.
Furthermore, the International Court of Justice has confirmed that there are serious allegations related to the commitment of genocide, and required states not to support or fund activities contributing to the continuation of these crimes.
Activists have deemed Uber's investment in an Israeli company at this time a "blatant betrayal of the values of justice and human rights," and "a direct participation in the killing machine" that has cost the lives of tens of thousands of Palestinians during the ongoing war on Gaza.
On social media, campaigns have spread urging users to immediately delete the Uber app, accompanied by slogans such as: "Uber funds bombs instead of transporting passengers" and "Gaza's blood on your wheels."
Boycott defenders believe that every dollar entering Israeli companies at this stage means more bullets and missiles on civilians, and that Uber should take full moral and legal responsibility for its decision.
While Uber continues to brag about its new investments in technology, its global image is rapidly eroding, as it is now seen as a company that places profits over lives and participates, knowingly or unknowingly, in covering up one of the most heinous crimes witnessed in the modern world.
