Jordan The Deputies Tax Reduction on Electronic Cigarettes Encourages Smoking

Member of the Parliamentary Health and Food Committee, Abdelhadi Al-Barizat, said on Monday that in smoking, there are no "bad" or "good" commodities, emphasizing that all components of electronic cigarettes are harmful to health.

Al-Barizat added during statements to Al-Mamlaka TV that all materials, compounds, and components of electronic cigarettes lead to health damage both in the short and long term.

He considered that the decision to reduce the tax on electronic cigarettes and heated tobacco products encourages smoking, pointing out that it conflicts with the national strategy for smoking control, and administrative and economic updates.

Al-Barizat mentioned that it is expected that the committee will discuss the decision to reduce the tax on electronic cigarettes in its first meeting, and the Minister of Health will be invited to the meeting, in addition to presenting a parliamentary memorandum to the government.

In the latest issue of the official gazette, a modified system for the special tax regime for the year 2025 for several goods and products related to heating tobacco and electronic cigarettes was published, to go into effect starting Monday.

The system amended clause four of article (3) of the original system by cancelling the text of clause (2) of paragraph (h) thereof and substituting it with the special tax on devices for heating tobacco products set at ten thousand fils.

The special tax for electronic cigarettes is now fifteen hundred fils per one milliliter of electronic cigarettes with liquid, and ten thousand fils for each device of electronic cigarettes without liquid, and the special tax on liquids used in electronic cigarettes is five hundred fils per one milliliter.
