Central Bank of Syria No official date for launching the new national currency

Khaberni - The Central Bank of Syria confirmed that the official date for launching the new national currency has not yet been set, refuting media reports that determined a date for introducing the currency into the markets.

The bank, in a statement published on its Telegram channel, clarified that the announcement of all details will be made at the appropriate time after completing all necessary preparations and arrangements.

The bank emphasized that it is the only official source of information related to the new currency, warning against news not issued by it. The Central Bank reassured citizens and investors that all banking operations will continue as usual without any impact on the services provided.

Yesterday, Syrian media sources reported that all public and private banks will be closed from December 27, 2025, to January 2, 2026, to complete the process of changing the Syrian currency.

The Syrian government had agreed, according to sources, last August with the Russian "Goznak" institution specialized in printing money to produce new banknotes and introduce them on the first anniversary of the overthrow of Assad.

It is planned that two zeros will be removed from the currency in an attempt to restore confidence in the lira, which has greatly depreciated in value. The design of the new currency has not been revealed yet, but it will definitely not include images of any individual but instead icons of the Syrian homeland.

The Syrian lira has collapsed since the crisis began in 2011, with the exchange rate now at about 11,500 liras to the dollar, compared to 50 liras before the war. The sharp decline in the currency's value has made daily transactions and financial transfers increasingly difficult.
