Khaberni - The year 2025 saw pivotal transformations and significant achievements for Jordanian women on various levels, reflecting a commitment to empowering women as a fundamental partner in sustainable development. These achievements are the result of ongoing royal support, ambitious national strategies, and effective international partnerships, all contributing to enhancing the role of Jordanian women and their participation in both public and private life.
This year also experienced a qualitative leap in the political and leadership representation of Jordanian women. Jordan improved its position in the Global Gender Gap Index (political empowerment) to rank 115, advancing nine positions from 2023, and Jordan ranked third in the Arab world in the gender gap index, where the gap closure rate reached 65.5%.
This progress reflects ongoing efforts and legal reforms in addition to steps that were part of the political modernization project in Jordan to enhance gender equality in political and public life.
Jordan scored a full mark (1.000) in the Women Leaders axis in the 2025 Global Gender Gap Report, where four women chaired parliamentary committees, and ten women held the positions of committee chairpersons and rapporteurs in the parliament. Regarding supervisory positions, there was a significant increase to reach 32%, and on boards of directors by 48%.
These figures reflect a positive change in the organizational structures of companies and confirm the leadership abilities of Jordanian women.
Economic empowerment of women is a cornerstone in the social and economic progress of any nation. In 2025, Jordanian women received significant support, driven by programs and initiatives aimed at enhancing their participation in the labor market and supporting their entrepreneurship, where women constituted 33% of the total workforce in the information technology and telecommunications sector. Although their representation in leadership positions did not exceed 4%, this participation in a vital and growing sector is an important step towards enhancing their contribution to the digital economy. However, participation in the labor market still presents a major challenge, and therefore we rely heavily on the economic modernization vision as it forms a major fulcrum for increasing women's economic participation.
Despite the significant achievements, there are still challenges facing Jordanian women, especially in the areas of economic participation and political empowerment. Women still only constitute 4% of leadership positions in the information technology sector, necessitating further efforts to enhance their access to these vital positions. Furthermore, their participation rate in the labor market (14.9) needs to be doubled to achieve the ambitious goals of the economic modernization vision by 2033. Future aspirations involve continuing the implementation of national strategies and supporting initiatives that enhance entrepreneurship, providing more inclusive work environments and legislation, in addition to benefiting from international partnerships for exchanging expertise, as empowering women in economic and leadership sectors will ensure comprehensive and sustainable development for Jordan.
