Renewed Debate in Jordan Over the Law to Abolish Imprisonment of Debtors Months After Its Ratification

According to the legal amendments that fully came into effect since June, the majority of financial violations where conviction occurs are now covered by imprisonment exceptions except for cases arising from real estate leases, employment contracts, religious and church/executive cases, in addition to state treasury cases valued over 5 thousand dinars, and compensations resulting from harmful acts or negligent responsibility or criminal acts, and claiming personal rights over a criminal act provided its value exceeds 5 thousand.
