Khaberni - The Public Authority for Specifications and Standards issued a statement on the death of 10 people as a result of gas leakage from one of the heaters known commercially as “Al-Shamousa”.
The institution stated in its statement that the sale of the heaters causing suffocation has been banned, and intensive measures have been taken to seize them.
It indicated that so far, more than 5,000 heaters of this type have been seized, and several samples have been sent for testing to the Royal Scientific Society.
It was explained that these heaters have been available in the local market for years, are produced locally, and no quantities of them are imported.
It also mentioned the prohibition of 3 local factories from selling these heaters in the local market, pending the results of technical tests conducted by the Royal Scientific Society on samples of them, following incidents of suffocation and the death of a number of people, in addition to seizing the existing quantities at them.
It clarified that such goods, due to their sensitivity, are subject to strict regulatory procedures before and after being offered in the local market to ensure public safety, emphasizing that there will be no leniency at all with any specification violations, whatever they may be.
