OpenAI Launches GPT52 Model to Counter Gemini 3s Dominance

Khaberni - OpenAI, on Thursday, launched the artificial intelligence model "GPT-5.2," after reports indicated that the company's CEO, Sam Altman, announced a high alert status within the company, suspended non-essential projects, and directed work teams to accelerate development in response to Google's Gemini 3 model.

OpenAI stated in a press release that "GPT-5.2" brings improvements in general intelligence, programming, and understanding of long contexts.

It added that the new model is expected to generate greater economic value for users, as it has improved in creating spreadsheets, building presentations, and handling complex multi-step projects, according to Reuters.

Google, owned by Alphabet, launched the latest version of Gemini in November, highlighting Gemini 3's leadership in many common industry benchmarks that measure the performance of artificial intelligence models.

Altman, in an interview with CNBC on Thursday, alongside Disney CEO Bob Iger, said that "the impact of Gemini 3 on our metrics was less than we feared."

Disney announced on Thursday a one billion dollar investment in "OpenAI," and will allow the emerging artificial intelligence company to use characters from Star Wars, Pixar, and Marvel in its "Sora" video clip generator.

OpenAI, backed by Microsoft, stated that it does not currently intend to remove "GPT-5.1," "GPT-5," and "GPT-4.1" from its application programming interface.

The rollout of "GPT-5.2" with its "Instant," "Thinking," and "Pro" versions began on "Chat GPT" on Thursday, starting with the paid packages.
