Death of 7 Palestinians in Gaza Due to Weather Depression

Khaberni - 7 Palestinians died due to collapses in various areas, following the weather depression that has hit the sector, amid a severe shortage of capabilities and aid.

A source in the ambulance and emergency services reported the death of 5 people and injuries to others due to a house collapse in Bir al-Najah in Beit Lahia, north of the Gaza Strip.

Civil Defense sources also reported the death of two people due to a large wall falling on the tents of displaced people in the west of Gaza City early this morning.

Yesterday, Thursday, 4 buildings in various parts of Gaza City collapsed after heavy rains fell on the sector.

The Civil Defense warned of the dangers of collapsing damaged and dilapidated buildings that displaced families had resorted to, especially with the weather depression hitting the sector, and the rains it brings causing soil erosion and further cracks in the walls and pillars damaged by bombing.

The Ministry of Health announced yesterday the death of the child Rahaf Abu Jazar, affected by the cold and rain, which led to the flooding of the displaced people's tents in the Mawasi area of Khan Younis.

The depression comes at a time when displaced people are living in tragic conditions due to the lack of life essentials and difficulty in accessing basic supplies, and the decline in vital services due to the Israeli blockade.

Despite the attempts of service agencies and individual initiatives to mitigate the consequences, the magnitude of suffering exceeds the available capabilities, making the worsening conditions for the displaced almost inevitable.

Approximately 250,000 families live in displacement camps in the Gaza Strip, facing the cold and floods inside ramshackle tents amid a lack of aid, according to previous statements by the Civil Defense.

Most of the displaced people take shelter in damaged tents, while the Government Media Office in Gaza estimated at the end of September that the percentage of tents no longer suitable for residence in the sector had reached about 93%, with 125,000 tents out of a total of 135,000.
