Jordans Mufti Lack of Knowledge and Deception by Appearances Behind Extremist Thought and Terrorism

Khaberni - The General Mufti of the Kingdom, Ahmad Hassnat, emphasized the importance of Jordanian youth awareness of their role in preserving their community and homeland away from extremist thought, through adherence to religious values based on moderation, moderation, and national constants, their belonging and loyalty to their homeland and Hashemite leadership, and not allowing others to influence them with extremist ideas.

During an awareness lecture organized by the Dean of Student Affairs and the Sharia and Islamic Studies College at Yarmouk University, and the student team "Khaberni," titled "The Role of Youth in Confronting Extremist Thought," Hassnat said that the discussion about extremism and terrorism has become the most prominent topic in recent years, confirming the need to be aware that the Islamic religion is a religion of mercy, which came with peace and security for mankind, and that extremism is not from Islam, but is from psychological motives within the souls of extremists.

Hassnat added that lack of knowledge and its superficiality, and being deceived by appearances were among the most prominent reasons that led extremists to fall into extremist thought and terrorism, pointing out the need to acquire Sharia knowledge from its reliable sources, and from trustworthy Sharia scholars.

He also stressed the importance of proper family upbringing in creating a balanced and aware generation, keen on their community and homeland. He explained that the General Iftaa Department is making great efforts in educating and immunizing the youth and the community against extremist thought and terrorism, and has worked on publishing a fatwa guide, in addition to creating an educational channel on "YouTube".

On his part, Dean of Student Affairs, Ahmad Sharifeen, said that the holding of this lecture stems from the university's belief in building and enhancing its students' awareness and promoting the values of distinguishing between enlightened discourse and deviant speech, translating the high royal visions calling for the establishment of moderation and protecting the society from extremist thought, and enhancing the values of openness and respect which are the basis of Jordan's strength and cohesion.

Sharifeen highlighted the importance of awareness lectures in providing knowledge and tools that enable students to understand the mechanisms of confronting extremism, and reinforcing the religious and national values that underpin the Jordanian state's mission.
