Khaberni - An impactful video documents the first appearance of the Syrian child Omran, 9 years after the famous incident in which Bashar al-Assad’s regime’s aircraft bombed his home in Aleppo, resulting in his brother's death when he was 4 years old. He appeared covered in rubble debris with blood streaming from his face, sitting alone in an ambulance.
Omran took the stage at the conference center yesterday, Monday, talking about the incident he experienced when he was four, during his attendance at an event commemorating the liberation of Syria. He said, "I am Omran... they say I lived through the bombing and the siege, but I do not remember anything."
He added, "I grew up with a void in my heart… I don't know if it's fear or crying. I only knew my story from the videos. Back then, I appeared covered in dust, and when the victory came, a great light returned to my life."
In turn, the Syrian President, Ahmad Al-Shara, quickly went up to the stage to embrace the child and kiss his head, a scene that sparked a wide reaction among users and activists on social media.
It is noted that in 2016, the Syrian photographer Mahmoud Raslan took a famous photo of a child sitting inside an ambulance, covered in dust, and blood flowing from his face, looking in shock, minutes after being rescued from under the rubble of his house that was targeted by an airstrike in the Syrian city of Aleppo.
The child was then 4 years old, and his name was Omran Daqneesh, and his picture shook the world. The scene of the little one sitting silently in the seat, without crying or screaming, dust covering his body, and blood staining his face, captivated global media.
New Era
It is noted that the Syrian president pledged yesterday, December 8, 2025, in a speech he gave at the conference center, a new era based on justice and communal living, affirming the commitment to hold accountable anyone who committed crimes against Syrians, who came out in the tens of thousands into the main city streets to celebrate. And Al-Sharaa said, "Today, with the dawn of freedom, we declare a historic break with that legacy and a complete demolition of false illusions and a permanent departure from the era of despotism and tyranny to a new dawn, a dawn based on justice, benevolence, citizenship, and shared living."
Since the early morning hours yesterday, tens of thousands of Syrians spread out in public squares in major cities, including Damascus, Aleppo, Idlib, Hama, and Homs, raising their national flags, chanting slogans and songs in support of the new authority, amidst strict security measures.
The Ministry of Defense also organized military parades that traveled major streets in Damascus and other cities.
