Khaberni - The Directorate General of Passports in Saudi Arabia confirmed today, Sunday, the need to activate the passport after its renewal, in order for the citizen to travel to the Gulf Cooperation Council countries using the national ID.
The "Passports" explained that the passport is "activated through visiting the passport offices or their branches or international ports, with the previous passport required and no need for a prior appointment".
The Directorate indicated that when traveling to the Gulf countries, the national ID must not expire within less than (3) months, pointing out that the digital identity through the platforms "Absher" and "Tawakkalna" is considered a proof of identity inside the kingdom only, and does not enable its holder to travel abroad.
It is mentioned that in April last year, the Directorate General of Passports in Saudi Arabia announced the lifting of the travel suspension using the national ID to and from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
At that time, it noted that Saudis could travel to the Gulf Cooperation Council countries using the national identity card, ensuring that the entry requirements of the destination country are met, emphasizing that "the family record card is not considered a document eligible for travel".
