Khaberni - The Asian Football Confederation announced today Thursday the postponement of the 2027 Asian Cup finals draw ceremony, which was originally scheduled for April 11 next year in Riyadh.
The war on Iran postpones the Asian Cup draw
The continental federation said in a statement "This decision was made after careful consideration to ensure the smooth and unobstructed attendance of all parties concerned in the draw ceremony."
The Asian Football Confederation expressed its appreciation for the readiness of the local organising committee for the 2027 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia "for its full readiness to host the drawing ceremony as planned" and also valued the understanding and continuous cooperation of the national federations involved, the fans, and all relevant partners.
It was stated that more details regarding the new arrangements for the draw will be announced in due course.
The region has seen a postponement or cancellation of a number of sporting events due to the war that erupted following attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran about a month ago.
Saudi Arabia to host the Asian Cup
Saudi Arabia is preparing to host the continental tournament, which is held every four years and features 24 teams, for the first time in its history. The final remaining round of the qualifiers is also scheduled to be held next Tuesday.
Qatar holds the title of the last edition and has already secured qualification for the finals alongside Japan, which holds the record with four titles, as well as South Korea, Iran, Jordan, Australia, and Uzbekistan.
The Asian Football Confederation also confirmed last Tuesday that the final stages of the Asian Champions League for the elite will be held as planned in Jeddah, during the period from April 13 to 26.
