Khaberni - This morning (Sunday), the area of Al-Mazairah in the Qurna district of Basra province transformed into a crime scene that shook the Iraqi public after a young man killed his sister inside her home, while his bullets left her husband seriously wounded, in a scene described by residents as "unprecedented" in terms of violence and shock.
According to initial information, the perpetrator entered the home of his sister and her husband and then fired at them with a Kalashnikov before fleeing, leaving the body of his sister and the bleeding body of her husband sprawled inside the house.
Local sources indicate that the victim died instantly, while her husband was transported to the hospital in critical condition, amidst significant speculation regarding the motives for the crime. Initial investigations talk about "family disputes" whose nature has yet to be clarified.
The security forces in Basra are intensifying their efforts to track down the perpetrator, who disappeared from sight immediately after committing the crime, while social media is filled with outrage, repeatedly asking the same question: "Where are family violence crimes heading in Iraq?"
This incident is part of a series of family crimes that the country has experienced recently; the last of which involved a man shooting at his family in Baghdad, killing his young daughter, in addition to a crime in Diwaniyah where a young man – under the influence of drugs – killed four members of his family.
