Khaberni - The Syrian Civil Defense White Helmets descended late on Friday evening, concluding a "human drama" experienced by the village of Saree' near Sinjar in the eastern Idlib countryside, successfully rescuing the three-year-old girl "Shatha" after she fell into a dry well.
Details of the "epic"
The complex rescue operation continued for about 11 continuous hours, amidst extremely difficult circumstances.
The child had fallen into the well, which is about 10 meters deep, but the biggest challenge was the fall of a rock with her, which led to "sealing the well opening" at a depth of 7 meters, preventing direct access to her from the well opening.
The side drilling plan
Faced with this obstacle, the teams were forced to implement an alternative plan which involved "performing side drilling parallel to the well wall".
The rescuers faced significant difficulties when reaching a depth of 3 meters due to the rocky nature of the ground, but they continued their work carefully and precisely.
Securing life underground
Throughout the operation, the civil defense preserved "Shatha's" life through:
Continual delivery of oxygen to her.
Providing her with water and food to enable her to endure until the moment of reaching her and extracting her safely.
