Egyptian director Muhammad Sami, accompanied by his wife, the star Mai Omar, attended the opening ceremony of the fifth edition of the Red Sea International Film Festival held in Jeddah Saudi Arabia, and commented on his wife's work with another director saying that he is her husband not her father.
Mai spoke to the media about her new series which she will participate in during the Ramadan season of 2026 "Miss Monaliza," written by Mohamed Sayed Bashir and directed by Mohamed Ali, saying, "It’s a very sweet series full of emotions, and I love to play roles that deal with women’s issues: abuse or oppression".
Commenting on Mai’s work with another director besides her husband, Sami said, "I'm her husband, not her father, by the way".
Regarding director Muhammad Sami's first acting experience in the series 8 Shots, he said: "I'm very pleased with the experience, and I liked the idea of acting. It's an experience I hope will succeed." Mai interrupted him affirming his great ability in acting and pointing out the ease of working with him as a director, due to his attention to the smallest details in the work.
Mai commented, "I’ve been telling him for ten years that he should act, he acts very well, and it’s very easy to work with Muhammad because he pays attention to all the details".
It is worth mentioning that after a joint artistic career spanning years between the actress Mai Omar and her director husband Muhammad Sami, Mai officially announced her artistic separation from him.
The couple achieved notable successes together presenting 8 previous works, notably "Ish Ish," “Avocado Blessing,” “Lolo,” "Nasal Al-Aghrab," and others.
