MP Yenal Freihat confirmed, during a session of the Legislative Council of Representatives on Wednesday, that the rights of the oppressed woman must be protected. However, he stressed at the same time that it is not possible to stand by the oppressive woman, especially in divorce cases, which he described as having become a "lifestyle".

Freihat noted that a large number of husbands contacted him to convey their views, which necessitates a comprehensive national dialogue on Jordanian family affairs under the supervision of His Eminence the Chief Justice and with the participation of relevant entities.

The MP described the number of divorce cases in Jordan as "alarming," highlighting an apparent ease in requesting divorce, while pointing out that some legislations contribute to cementing this painful reality.

Freihat talked about a new lifestyle pattern emerging post-divorce, which has become common among some divorced women and is promoted and encouraged, thereby reinforcing the idea of separation instead of seeking solutions to marital disputes.

In the custody file, he mentioned that a number of fathers complain about the limited time available for them to see their children, with the duration not exceeding an hour or two per week, which weakens family bonds and affects the relationship between the father and his children.
