Khaberni - Authorities in Northern Ireland are investigating the first suspected outbreak of the "Blue Tongue Virus" among cattle herds.
According to the British news agency (BI Media), it is believed that the disease affecting the cattle has harmed two cows near the city of Bangor.
Control measures and temporary ban areas
On Saturday, the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs announced the establishment of a temporary control area covering 20 kilometers, which bans the movement of susceptible species (such as cattle and sheep) into or out of the area.
The Minister of Agriculture in Northern Ireland, Andrew Moyer, has called for assistance to be given to all producers affected by the new control measures to limit the spread of the virus.
The nature of the disease and its transmission methods
It should be noted that the Blue Tongue virus is an animal disease that affects a number of livestock, including cattle, sheep, goats, and deer.
The symptoms of the disease include swelling and blueness of the tongue, fever, reduced milk production, and it can lead to death in severe cases.
It is important to note that the disease does not affect humans or food safety, and is primarily transmitted by mosquitoes.
