Khaberni - Japanese researchers revealed in a recent study that adopting a simple daily routine could help reduce eye irritation and redness caused by seasonal allergies.
Scientific Reports stated in a recent study that a simple habit such as regularly washing the eyes can significantly reduce eye irritation and redness caused by seasonal allergies.
The scientists analyzed data from 476 users of the AllerSearch app, including about 70 people who regularly washed their eyes as a preventative measure to alleviate symptoms of seasonal allergies. The results showed that these individuals suffered less from itching, watery eyes, and redness, and were able to spend longer symptom-free days during allergy seasons, with a significant improvement in their overall health. The researchers also confirmed that eye washing did not increase the severity of dry eye symptoms, indicating the safety of this practice.
The researchers indicate that these results support previous recommendations by Japanese ophthalmologists to use eye washing as a gentle measure against allergic conjunctivitis, but the new study provides more specific evidence on the benefits of this habit with seasonal allergies. However, the study did not specify the number of times the eyes should be washed daily, or the methods used by the users in the app.
The researchers stressed that eye washing should not be considered a substitute for medical treatment but it represents a simple and safe way to alleviate symptoms of seasonal allergies and to improve the quality of life.
