Khaberni - Syrian Information Minister Hamza Mustafa said that Israel is trying to drag the Syrian government into a confrontation with multiple provocations, ensuring that it miscalculates when it believes that it can impose realities on the ground.
Mustafa was speaking to the Syrian News Channel, commenting on the Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, the latest of which was the bombardment targeted at the town of
Beit Jinn in the countryside of Damascus, last Friday, which resulted in the death of 13 people, following an incursion that Israel justified by arresting wanted young men and was met with resistance by the residents of Beit Jinn, leading to the injury of 6 Israeli soldiers before they withdrew leaving behind a military vehicle.
The Syrian Information Minister affirmed that his country "will not be a launchpad for threatening neighboring countries, but it will not spare any means to confront Israeli aggression and deter it."
He added: "We are not ashamed to say that we are not in a position of strength, especially after liberation, and we want to focus on the country's recovery."
Damascus has called on the United Nations Security Council to take urgent action to stop the repeated Israeli violations, at a time when Syrian sources informed Al Jazeera that "Israeli entities are fabricating labels for groups threatening Israel's security, and are using them as a pretext for incursions into Syrian territory."
On its part, the Israeli army said that this attack comes as part of the "Bashan Arrow" operation launched after the fall of the ousted Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on December 8th, targeting military sites across the country, as well as taking control of strategic locations including Mount Hermon, in addition to controlling the buffer zone.
