Iraq A major fire at the Baiji oil refinery and authorities reveal casualty toll

Khaberni  - The Iraqi Ministry of Oil confirmed on Monday evening the control of the fire that broke out in one of the compressors in the Salahuddin 2 refinery in Baiji, pointing out that the flames caused the death of one worker and injured 13 others.

The Baiji refinery in Iraq, located about 180 kilometers north of Baghdad, witnessed a major fire, where the Iraqi Ministry of Oil took measures in conjunction with a strong move and support from the civil defense teams in the northern governorates to control the fire.

The Iraqi Ministry of Oil stated in a statement that "the efforts of the safety and firefighting teams managed at 8 PM to control the fire that broke out at (7:45) PM on this Monday in one of the compressors in the Salahuddin 2 refinery in Baiji".

The ministry pointed out that "all operations related to controlling the fire were completed at (8:15) PM," confirming that "the cause of the fire was replacing the operation of the compressor, which is part of the daily routine work".

The ministry clarified that "the fire resulted in the death of one of the heroic workers at the refinery and injured 13 others" with burns.
