Frances Highest Court Upholds Sarkozys Conviction

Khaberni - The highest court in France issued a ruling against former President Nicolas Sarkozy on Wednesday, concerning the illegal financing of his 2012 election campaign, thereby adding a second final conviction to his criminal record.

The Court of Cassation announced on Wednesday that Sarkozy was "finally convicted" in the case of financing his 2012 election campaign, thus upholding the appeal court's ruling last year which sentenced him to six months in prison, to be monitored by an electronic bracelet he must continuously wear.

Prosecutors stated that Sarkozy's right-wing party collaborated with the public relations firm "Bygmalion" to conceal the true cost of his 2012 campaign.

They also noted that he spent nearly 43 million euros (about 50 million dollars) on his 2012 election campaign, nearly double the allowed amount of 22.5 million euros.

Sarkozy denied "any criminal responsibility," describing these allegations as "lies."
