Khaberni - The European Parliament, today, on Wednesday, approved a decision that includes setting the age of 16 years as the minimum age for the use of social media platforms within the union countries, as part of an initiative aimed at ensuring "appropriate digital engagement" for younger groups.

According to the draft published last October, the proposed decision includes a clear demand that the minimum age for users of social media platforms online be 16 years, except in cases where parents or guardians give consent that allows their children to use these platforms before this age.

The decision also sets the age of 13 years as the minimum age below which no minor can create an account or access social media platforms, with the same age set as the minimum for using video-sharing services within Europe.

It should be noted that the European Parliament's decision is only advisory and is not legally binding for the member states.
