Hong Kong Fire 13 Dead and Hundreds of Residents Evacuated

Khaberni - A massive fire in a high-rise residential complex in Hong Kong resulted in 13 deaths and dozens of injuries, and about 700 people were evacuated while firefighting teams continue to search for those trapped.

Hong Kong firefighting teams confirmed that the fire, which broke out in tall residential buildings, resulted in 13 deaths, with 9 people declared dead at the scene and 4 others confirmed dead after being transferred to hospitals later.

The authorities explained that about 700 people were evacuated to temporary shelters to ensure their safety, while the broadcasting and television body (RTHK), citing the police, mentioned that a number of people are still trapped inside the burning towers, and specialized teams are working to reach them.


A number of firefighters were injured while attempting to control the flames that broke out in two residential towers, each consisting of 31 floors, amid difficult conditions and rapid smoke spreading.

The fire department announced that it received the first report at 2:51 PM local time about a fire in the “Wang Fok” complex in the Tai Po area, and the alarm level was raised to the fourth degree at exactly 3:34 PM as the situation escalated.
