Khaberni - A former attendant at Virgin Atlantic revealed in a video that garnered hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube that the pilots are never served the same meal during the flight, as a precaution to protect the aircraft and its passengers.
According to Smith, who worked as a flight attendant for 12 years, the pilots pre-select their meals in a way that one might choose chicken, for example, while the other might choose fish. This strategy is aimed at minimizing the risks in case of food poisoning.
Smith said: "Obviously, we don't want both of them to start vomiting!" She confirmed that this is solely a precautionary measure, as the food served on board is generally safe.
The reason behind this policy is clear: Both pilots are responsible for operating the aircraft. If one of them becomes ill, the other can take control of the aircraft and ensure the safety of everyone on board. This policy is part of a wide range of safety measures implemented by all airlines to reduce risks during the flight.
The Change in Food Flavor in the Air
Smith also discussed the challenges of eating at high altitudes, explaining that the cockpit environment affects the sense of taste, making flavors seem weaker compared to on the ground.
The decrease in pressure, humidity, and physiological changes in the body affect the taste buds and the overall perception of flavor. Thus, chefs adjust the recipes by adding stronger spices to ensure that passengers and crew experience balanced and delicious flavors.
