Khaberni - Social media platforms in Egypt witnessed a wide state of empathy mixed with anger, following the circulation of a video documenting harsh moments for a delivery worker.
The video showed the worker sobbing in front of the door of a residential apartment, after being subjected to a "scam and insult" by one of the customers.
The details of the incident, as revealed by the circulated clip, go back to the worker heading to deliver an "order" to one of the customers, only to be surprised after delivering the order that the apartment owner refused to pay the due financial dues, disregarding professional honesty and the financial rights of the simple worker.
The circulated video showed the worker's desperate attempts to reclaim his right, as he repeatedly knocked on the apartment door while in a state of collapse and intense crying, prompting several neighbors to intervene and try to do him justice.
Instead of responding or settling the matter, the video showed the apartment owner looking out of his home window with his mobile phone in hand, deliberately filming the worker and documenting his moments of weakness and breakdown, which fueled feelings of resentment among viewers who considered the behavior "devoid of mercy".
The incident topped the "trend" in Egypt, amidst widespread demands for holding the customer accountable and restoring the dignity of the worker who represents a class that toils in difficult conditions.
In response to this interaction, the Egyptian security forces began to investigate the details of the incident meticulously, analyzing video clips to identify the parties involved and the location of the incident, in preparation for taking the necessary legal actions concerning the incident and ensuring that the worker's rights are not lost.
