Deputy Dima Tahboub asked two questions to the Minister of Energy to open the file on alternative energy in Jordan, aiming to maximize investment in wind and solar power and reduce reliance on imports.
Regarding wind energy, Tahboub asked about:
o Existing projects, their names, locations, production capacities, and government ownership in them.
o The amount of energy produced over the last three years.
o The financial and economic returns for the government (profits, fees, taxes, savings on the energy bill).
o Contribution of wind energy to meeting national demand and strategic goals.
o Expansion plans for the next five years and the removal of barriers for investors.
o Benefit to local communities from job opportunities, corporate responsibility, and development projects.
As for solar energy, Tahboub asked about:
Secondly: Solar Energy
o Existing solar energy projects, their names, locations, and power purchase agreements.
o Amounts produced over the past three years.
o Financial and economic returns for the government (profits, fuel savings, taxes, and fees).
o The percentage of solar energy contribution to covering the demand, and targets until 2030–2040.
o Expansion plans and the use of desert lands, increasing partnerships with the private sector and investment funds.
o Community development programs, training and employment opportunities, and monitoring of company commitments.
