Khaberni - A Bahraini youth's impulsiveness resulted in his involvement in an assault on his female coworker, disfiguring her face with hot water which caused her a permanent disability estimated by medical committees to be 5%. The major criminal court began its first hearing yesterday, and decided to postpone the session until November 30 to hear the defense of the accused, with his continued detention pending the case.
The details of the incident trace back to when the accused, a man in his twenties working at a café, had a minor dispute with his Asian coworker over serving an order. The disagreement escalated to him physically assaulting her by knocking her down, prompting the intervention of delivery staff to rescue her. After the two were separated, while the victim had her back to him, he called her by name, and as soon as she turned around, he poured hot water on her face that he had prepared in a container used for order preparations.
The victim reported in her complaint that she had asked the accused for help on the morning of the incident, but he did not respond. She then accessed her account on the cash register and closed his account before he unexpectedly attacked her, knocking her to the ground. After the workers intervened and she believed the issue was resolved, she was on her way to speak with the manager while the accused was behind her. He called her again, and when she turned to him, he ambushed her by pouring hot water on her face. She added that the workers took her out of the shop to the street, but the accused followed her and assaulted her with a blow to her head using a water heater.
For his part, the accused admitted in the public prosecution's investigations to his actions, where he was charged with intentionally causing the victim a permanent disability by assaulting and strangling her with his hands. After the assault was broken up by those present, he insisted on continuing the assault by waiting for her at the coffee preparation area, approaching her with the hot water, calling her to turn towards him, and pouring the water on her face causing the burns and injuries as described in the forensic medical report attached to the documents. He then approached her while she was outside the workplace premises and assaulted her using a metal water heater, causing the victim a permanent disability amounting to 5% as detailed in the investigations.
