Jordanian and his son study together in medical school

Khaberni - In an inspiring story, the Jordanian Ali Al-Laham (60 years old) continues his study at the medical school at the Jordan University, where he now studies alongside his son who is enrolled in the same college.

Al-Laham says that the dream of studying medicine has been with him since he was an agricultural economics student at the Jordan University more than three decades ago, when he would look at the nearby medical school building and wish to join it, but work circumstances and family obligations prevented him from achieving his dream at that time.

In 2020, everything changed when he contracted the coronavirus and was hospitalized. Al-Laham recounts: “I heard some doctors mention that I might die on Saturday, but that harsh experience increased his determination, so he began to read about the disease and the lungs, only to discover that things were not as complicated as he had thought.

After recovering, Al-Laham decided to take the general secondary education exam and scored nearly 98%, which led him to apply to medical school and enter the competition.

Today, Al-Laham studies in the fifth year of medical school, while his son studies in the second year, and jokingly says about him: He's a bit smarter than me too.

Al-Laham relays a humorous situation with one of his professors, when the doctor said during a lesson: “You look a bit older than your age; I thought you were 35 or 40,” to which Al-Laham replied, “I am your age, doctor…I am 60 years old,” which surprised the professor.

Al-Laham reaffirms that the path of medicine is not easy, but will and challenge overcome difficulties, adding that he is proud of his son who deals with his father's presence on campus with continuous love and support, even encouraging him to study so as not to fail.
