Khaberni - A British court today started to look into a tragic case that has shaken the local community, where a 13-year-old girl is accused of murdering a mother of three inside her home in Wellingborough, after stabbing her 143 times.
The authorities found the victim, named Marta Bednarska, in a smoke-filled living room after a fire broke out in March, but medical examinations revealed that Marta suffered severe injuries to her head, neck, chest, arms, and hands before the fire, suggesting that the fire was an attempt to cover up the crime.
Investigations clarified that one of the stabs penetrated the victim's brain, which required significant force to execute. The prosecution confirmed that the young killer had been planning the crime weeks before carrying it out, and she also sent messages to her friends indicating that she "would not be at school for a while," and even researched the penalty she could face if convicted of murder.
Despite the young girl's age, police analyses and hospital witnesses showed that she smiled after being arrested, raising concerns about the psychological motives behind the crime. The prosecution argued that the act was intentional and premeditated, and that the defense of "diminished responsibility" does not apply to her.
The court arranged special provisions for its sessions, including seating in the back row and the presence of a social worker, with session hours adjusted to match a school day to accommodate her young age, according to the "Metro" newspaper.
Marta had moved from Poland to the United Kingdom in 2010 and worked in a warehouse in Wellingborough to provide for her family's needs, and she was described by the family as the "housekeeper and leader of the family," highlighting her great love for her children and her constant support for friends and neighbors.
Family members wrote poignant letters commemorating her memory, affirming that her loss has created a vacuum that cannot be filled, and that her memory will remain alive in their hearts despite the tragedy. However, the investigation suggested that the motive behind the crime may remain unknown.
