Ways to Preserve the Beauty of Your Wooden Furniture for Decades

Khaberni - Wooden furniture is a staple in most of our Arab homes. It's not just a piece placed in the house; it's an element that adds warmth, identity, and the sophisticated touch that every detail-loving woman seeks. Over time, the wood becomes a witness to daily life and memories.

However, good looks do not last automatically; they are the result of a simple routine and ongoing care, preserving the beauty of the pieces, and helping them last many years without losing their charm. Here are some practical and easy steps that ensure your wooden furniture stays in the best condition for years.

Ways to preserve your wooden furniture; to remain beautiful for decades:

- Treat wood as you would treat your skin:

It might sound strange, but the analogy is very accurate. Wood is affected by the sun and moisture, just as skin is. Therefore, avoid exposing pieces to direct sunlight for long periods, so as not to dull the color or damage the surface. Place curtains or light blockers to reduce the effect of strong rays, and maintain moderate humidity in the room to prevent the wood from expanding or contracting.

- Take care of your pieces as if you were using them for the first time:

Small actions make a big difference over the long term. Always think: "How would I have dealt with this piece when I bought it?" You can put adhesive bases under chairs and tables to protect the floors and prevent scratches, use coasters to avoid liquid stains, place mats or bases under hot dishes, and wipe up any spills immediately with a lightly damp cloth and then dry it. These everyday habits give the wood a longer life and keep its surface shiny and intact.

- Use gentle cleaners:

Harsh cleaning is not the solution for wood, but on the contrary, it can cause damage. Always start with the simplest composition possible: a few drops of dish soap with a little warm water. This mixture removes dust and dirt without harming the surface. For tough stains, add a little white vinegar to the mix, and gently pass a soft sponge without abrasive scrubbing, and completely avoid bleaches, bathroom cleaners, ammonia, or strong grease removers, as they can affect the protective layer and mar the appearance of the wood.

- Do not overfill the drawers:

It is easy to fall into the habit of "cramming," especially in clothing drawers. But extra weight can make the drawers sag or disrupt their tracks. Limit what you put in drawers to a light to medium weight. Organize the contents so they do not accumulate in one spot, and close drawers and doors gently, without banging or strong pulling. These details ensure the piece remains stable and balanced for years.

Remember that wood is resilient, so don't overdo the caution, as wood by nature is a strong material, and a small scratch will not ruin the piece. Over time, wood acquires a beautiful touch called "aging," which gives it a special character. So don't treat every minor mark as a disaster. Because wood can be polished, renewed, and refinished easily when needed. And most importantly, accept that wooden pieces change over time, and this is part of their beauty. The goal is not for the furniture to always look new, but for it to age in a beautiful way and integrate into the story of your home.
