Arab Oman Pharmacy organizes an advanced training course on Handling Chemicals and General Safety in Laboratories

Khaberni - As part of the ongoing efforts of Arab Oman University to enhance public safety culture and apply the highest quality standards in the educational and scientific research environment, the Faculty of Pharmacy organized a specialized training course titled "Handling Chemicals and General Safety in Laboratories" presented by Dr. Adel Ardakani, a faculty member at the Faculty of Pharmacy at Arab Oman University, and an expert in the field of laboratory safety and chemical management, attended by Professor Dr. Rana Abu Haweij, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy.

The course targeted supervisors of the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Medical Sciences laboratories, aiming to enhance their competence in safe handling of chemicals, raise their awareness of preventive measures to ensure the safety of students and staff, and maintain a safe and organized educational environment. The course was distinguished by combining theoretical and practical applications, enabling participants to acquire direct, applicable skills in the laboratory environment.

The course included some training modules such as: basics of safe storage of chemicals and their classification according to the degree of hazard, methods of proper transport and handling of materials, mechanisms for immediate handling of accidents and chemical spills, in addition to principles of safe disposal of chemical waste according to environmental and health standards. The participants also underwent practical training on emergency procedures and first aid, with reviews of real accident cases and their analysis to enhance readiness and proper response.

In her turn, Dr. Abu Haweij affirmed that this course is part of the strategic plan of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Arab Oman University aimed at enhancing a safe and sustainable educational and research environment, noting that the safety of students and staff is a priority of the university, and that the faculty continually works on organizing training programs that contribute to developing the skills of its staff in line with global advancements in the field of professional and laboratory safety.

For his part, Dr. Ardakani expressed his pleasure with the positive interaction from participants, appreciating the Pharmacy Faculty's commitment to investing in the development of its technical staff and instilling a culture of safety within laboratories, which reflects the university's vision to achieve institutional excellence in all academic and practical fields. At the end of the course, participants expressed their appreciation to Arab Oman University for providing quality training programs that contribute to raising awareness of public safety and developing the laboratory work environment in line with the latest global practices.
