Khaberni - Drug cases continue to cast a shadow over the artistic community in Egypt, as incidents where artists are found with drugs recur from time to time, despite their strong presence in front of the audience and the glitter of fame that surrounds them.
The Egyptian authorities arrested the comedian Shady Alphonse after finding a substance suspected of being a drug inside his car while he was in Tahrir Square in downtown Cairo, according to preliminary investigations.
Security sources mentioned that a police patrol suspected the artist's car while inspecting the security situation, before searching the vehicle led to the seizure of a plastic bag containing about 5 grams of marijuana.
The investigations indicated that Alphonse denied any connection to the seized items, claiming that they were not his, but he was referred to the investigative authorities to complete the legal procedures, and the public prosecution decided to have him examined by the forensic medicine authority to take a blood sample.
Menna Shalaby
In similar cases involving other artists, such as the actress Menna Shalaby, who was detained two years ago at Cairo Airport after finding drugs in her bags during a customs inspection, and subsequently sentenced to one year in prison with a suspended sentence.
Dina El Sherbiny
The actress Dina El Sherbiny faced a similar situation in 2014, when she was arrested in Zamalek on charges of possessing cocaine, and was sentenced to one year in prison, which she served in Qanater Prison.
Saad El Soghayar
In September 2024, the artist Saad El Soghayar was caught at Cairo Airport in possession of drugs, and was sentenced to 3 years in prison. Later, the sentence was reduced to 6 months in February 2025, and he was released after the appeal.
Essam Sasa
Festival singer Essam Sasa was charged in May 2024 with charges related to possessing methamphetamine, amphetamine, hashish, and tramadol with the intent to use, and the court sentenced him to 6 months in prison.
The investigations clarified that he was driving his car under the influence of drugs, which caused the death of a young man named Ahmed Miftah.
Ahmed Flux
In 2023, the artist Ahmed Flux was sentenced to 6 months in prison with a suspended sentence and a fine of 10,000 Egyptian pounds, after being accused of possessing hashish with the intent to use.
