Khaberni - The Department of Statistics issued its monthly report on urban activity and building permits in Jordan, where the report indicated a noticeable increase in the total area of licensed buildings during the first nine months of 2025.
According to the report, the total area of licensed buildings reached 7.18 million square meters, compared to 6.36 million square meters for the same period in 2024, registering an increase of 13%.
The report also noted that the total number of building permits issued during the same period reached 18,248 permits, an increase of 6% compared to 17,207 permits in the same period of 2024.
On a monthly performance level, the construction activity in September 2025 experienced a decline in licensed areas, which decreased from 852 thousand square meters in August 2025 to 740 thousand square meters in September 2025, a decline of 13%.
The data showed that the areas licensed for residential purposes constituted the largest portion of the total licensed areas, totaling about 5.6 million square meters, compared to 5.1 million square meters during the same period in 2024, an increase of 10%.
The areas licensed for non-residential purposes; amounted to about 1.60 million square meters, compared to 1.26 million square meters in the same period of 2024, an increase of 27%.
Thus, the areas licensed for residential purposes constituted 77.7% of the total licensed areas, while the areas licensed for non-residential purposes constituted 22.3%.
At the regional level, the Central Region accounted for 71% of the total licensed building area in the Kingdom, recording an increase of 5.7%. In contrast, the Northern Region recorded 20.4% of the total licensed areas, with a decrease of 10.5%, while the Southern Region accounted for 8.6%, with a decrease of 14%.
In terms of the relative distribution of licensed residential areas by population in the provinces, the Capital Governorate recorded the highest percentage, reaching 13% of the total licensed areas, with an area of 0.631 square meters per person.
As for the Mafraq Governorate, it recorded the lowest percentage of relative distribution of residential areas, at 4.6%; with an area of 0.225 square meters per person.
The areas licensed for new buildings and additions to existing buildings accounted for 66.2% of the total licensed areas during the first nine months of 2025.
The total licensed area for this purpose was about 4.75 million square meters, compared to 4.05 million square meters during the same period in 2024, an increase of 17.3%. Meanwhile, the areas licensed for existing buildings constituted 33.8% of the total licensed areas.
The Department of Statistics is considered an important source of data used by relevant entities for urban planning and public policy formulation through its monthly survey of building permits.
These data provide vital indicators about the activity of the construction sector, which aids in making decisions based on real facts. It should be noted that these data do not include government projects that are licensed by the licensing authorities, as they are included in separate surveys.
The indicators point to a continued growth in urban activity in Jordan during the first nine months of 2025, with a noticeable increase in the number of permits and licensed areas. The residential sector remains the most growing, while the non-residential sector also sees significant development, reflecting the diversity of the urban market needs in Jordan.
