Khaberni - Basra International Airport in Iraq received 7 Kuwaiti aircraft that were forced to make an emergency landing there after adverse weather in Kuwait led to a halt in landing operations, as reported by the Iraqi news agency in a statement.

According to the statement, the dense fog experienced in Kuwait caused a decrease in horizontal visibility, making it impossible for aircraft to land at Kuwait Airport.

The statement indicated that the aircraft landed at Basra Airport under what is known as "the second freedom" in civil aviation rules, which allows for a temporary technical stop when necessary.

The ministry confirmed that the Basra Airport team dealt with the incoming flights and passengers with high efficiency and smoothness, without affecting the scheduled flight timetable, thanks to joint coordination between the airport staff and the technical devices in operation.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi Airports Administration announced the readiness of all the country’s airports to receive scheduled and unscheduled flights, including emergency landings, affirming that they possess modern navigational devices with global specifications and qualified staff to handle various weather conditions.

This event comes just days after Basra Airport received nine other Kuwaiti aircraft that were also forced to divert their course due to fog in Kuwait’s skies, reflecting the airport’s readiness to handle emergency situations and ensure continuous air traffic.
