Boeing to Pay Millions in Compensation to Families of Air Accident Victims

Khaberni - Boeing will pay over $35 million in compensation to the family of an Indian environmental worker affiliated with the United Nations, who died in a 737 Max plane crash in Ethiopia in 2019.

On Wednesday, a federal court jury in Chicago ordered the American company to pay the family more than $28 million.

However, Boeing will pay an additional amount of $3.45 million to the victim's husband, Shekhar Garg, as part of a settlement reached outside of court, plus an interest fee of 26 percent. Thus, the total amount Boeing will pay to the Garg family amounts to $35.8 million.

The verdict issued in favor of the Garg family is the first among dozens of lawsuits filed in the wake of that accident, which claimed the lives of 157 passengers, and another incident in Indonesia in 2018, which killed 346 people.
